The scientific and technological progress has radically transfigured both the strategic tasks and the scale of research work and its socio-organizational structure. The problem of goal-directed planning and management of science as mass production of knowledge not only has stood upright; it has turned into a reality essentially determining the dynamics of research and the quality of its final results. Among the most important instruments of managing science, belong motives – the inner urges of creative activity. It is just them that bind scientist with invisible threads to all the totality of social wants and interests as well as of human goals and values and engaging him as a researcher in the socio-historical context of his epoch. Easier can be realized and more distinctly traced personal and socio-practical motives, since they are stronger related to the every-day life of researcher and more or less directly reflect his strivings and expectations, exposing the external sources of creative work. However those motives inevitably prove to be emasculated and fruitless when not immersed in the partitioned and multidimensional cognitive process complying, first and foremost, with its own rules. Hence, the personal and socio-practical motivation of research work has as its necessary prerequisite a specified configuration of intra-science factors that generally can be named thematic motives. Their theoretical analysis constituting the main task of the paper is called on to enable the elaboration of a whole system of incentives and guides within the institute of modern science.
