ANCIENT ROME: THE FACETS OF FREE ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Those who have taken interest in the first part of my paper “THE ROUTINE NATURE OF RADICAL INNOVATION (The Origins and Making of Private Share Company in Ancient Rome)” have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with its sequel. In the second part, it is shown how private capital felt and what difficulties and impediments it met with at that time. One can learn thence why it could not but rest on slaveholding and what were its organizational forms. The framework of private (individual) enterprise is first exposed as well as the nature and structure of commercial partnerships are scrutinized, what allows of seeing both the inner potential of Roman private business and its fundamental limitations and inability to maintain the growth of capitalism at a due rate.
