Human perception represents, in the final analysis, a function of consciousness. Proceeding from the data obtained by the sensorium, and the results of their processing in the appropriate brain centers, consciousness constructively adjusts the “outer” information to inner dominants, making the emphasis due to attention. Thereby, the source information is filtered, corrected, and ordered, and eventually slanted towards patterns and “formulas” emerging in the conceptual world of the subject, within his “own” reality. In other words, purports – the structural entities of that world – are projected onto experience and objectified in sensuous images. Hence, perceiving a thing, the subject actually apperceives (“recognizes”) it. But this, in turn, cannot be fulfilled elsewise than through building the “scanned” figure into the conceptual reality and identifying that with one of the latter’s purports. Thus, the sensuous image turns out, in fact, a projection of an inner purport onto the partitioned, configurated content of experience. It as though engenders the perceived thing from the background that changes into the reality surrounding the thing.
